Malbork

Malbork Castle, located in northern Poland, is one of the the largest castles in the world. It is also among the best preserved. Its construction started in the early 1300s by the Polish king Wladyslaw Lokietek. During the 1360s, it was influenced by the Teutonic Order, although its initial military purpose was never realized.

The castle was around for the most part of the second half of the fourteenth century. Though it was strongly damaged during the Swedish invasion, it was repaired, and since then it has served as the seat of the Prussian garrison.

Due to its strategic significance, the castle complex was gradually enlarged and remodeled. The combination of Polish architectural influences and those of the Teutonic Order gave the castle a unique appearance.

Construction of the Royal Saltworks at Wielichowiec began later in 1490 and was finished in 1497. The saltworks and the castle were supported by the same wooden dikes, and the latter was used to store the salt that was produced there for military usage.

Lublin

Lublin is a city with plenty of history. It was at one point Poland’s capital and is also the capital of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship.
